Regeneration
To be efficient, a Diesel Particulate Filter must be regenerated (cleaned) periodically. Accumulated soot or ash deposits create counter-pressure and reduce horsepower. Regeneration may be passive when exhaust temperature duration is sufficient to reach light-off of exhaust gases. Or the Filter may be removed for off-premises cleaning. There are many variables which determine the frequency of regeneration.
- Quality of Fuel and Sulfur Content
- Design, Age, Condition of Engine
- Injector Timing, Crankcase Oil, Intake Air
